Inter Coach Luciano Spalletti has reportedly contacted his old Zenit player Axel Witsel, currently at Tianjin Quanjian.
The Belgium international spent five years at Zenit St Petersburg, much of that time under the guidance of Spalletti.
He had been very close to a Serie A move in the past, famously sitting in the Juventus HQ for hours on deadline day only for the transfer to fall through, as Zenit couldn’t find a suitable replacement.
According to Rai Sport, Witsel could still get a shot at Italian football and work with Spalletti again at Inter.
Tianjin Quanjian paid €20m to sign him a year ago, so it would only be a loan with option to buy for the 29-year-old.
